The groom wanted to be married in the city and church where his father was born and raised, which you must have guessed was Siena.
Preparations for a destination wedding without a wedding planner was quite an undertaking with long-distance calls, e-mails lost from computer crashes, and just plain confusion. The Borgo staff pulled us from our paralyzed state and helped organize preparations, from contact with the delightful priest at Parrocchia San Mamiliano in Valli, the British organist, the reception in the Tuscan hills, music, photographer, florist, car rental for the newlyweds, and of course, reservations at the Borgo Grondaie for all the wedding party’s family and friends. It was quite an international crowd besides the Italian side of the family – there were also the bride’s Venezuelan aunts and uncles who came from Caracas and Madrid, and we even had close friends from Iran and Haiti.

After almost a year, everyone is still enchanted by the charm of the Borgo Grondaie and the personal attention and care given to each and every one of us. Of course, the highlight of the event was the morning of the wedding with the wonderful breakfast on the flowered terrace before the nervous rush of preparations for the afternoon wedding and evening reception. The weather was perfect with the lovely Tuscan sun and blue sky. And once the wedding was over, we all relaxed in total contentment by spending a few extra days at Borgo Grondaie just absorbing the serenity and beauty of Siena. And guess what? The newlyweds want to return to Siena and the Borgo Grondaie for their first wedding anniversary this September!
