Italian lifestyle

Some lovely guests of us wrote a review on Venere.com saying that the ‘cordial' (friendly) and 'eficaç' (efficient) 'tracte' (deal) they founded at Borgo Grondaie reminded them the movie Avanti! of Billy Wilder, with Jack Lemmon and Juliet Mills.

Of course I was very curious to know more about that and so... I purchased the DVD online. After few days I was able to see the movie and… what a surprise!.

Although the movie was made on 1972 there are no so different changes like ‘dollar crisis’ of our time…

Anyway…

Americans seem always very ‘busy’ while the Italians have in their mind as priority the ‘pleasure of life’.

The sense of humour of Wilder about Italian lifestyle remind me the recent movie of Joel and Ethan Coen, Burn after reading with Brad Pitt and George Clooney, about American lifestyle.

Both movies are so funny. Maybe that of Wilder is not so bitter like that of the Coen brothers because of the different matter they face. In fact, Avanti! tells a love affair while Burn after reading tells about an absurd spying story.

I was also able to understand better how Americans see the Italian life reading a novel written last year by an American journalist, Elizabeth Gilbert.

In her book, ‘Eat, Pray, Love: one woman's search for everything across Italy, India and Indonesia’, when she talks about her experience in Italy she writes that, according to her, Americans search just ‘entertainment’ in their life and need to have something ‘to do’ any time; Italians search only the ‘pleasure’ of life also when it means ‘nothing to do’, what we call ‘dolce far niente’ (the sweetness of doing nothing).

Borgo Grondaie is proud to offer to its guests an experience of Italian life.

For that reason we are so happy because of the review I mentioned at the beginning of this post and we want to say ‘thanks’ to the authors.
