After the post about a trip list in Italy let me now give you some tips you can’t miss when you visit those places.
As a guest of Borgo Grondaie told me one time... when you arrive in a new town look directions for the main Square: you won’t get lost and you will be sure to find there the most representative buildings of the town.
If you are an art lover I am sure you will bring with you all the information about art in Italy. If you are a not expert of art don’t worry. All the people are able to recognize and enjoy the beauty. At home you will have time enough to learn about the things you liked more.
So:
- in Venice: St. Mark's Piazza (St. Mark’s Basilica, Palazzo Ducale, Bridge of Sighs)
- in Milan: Duomo’s Piazza (Duomo’s Cathedral)
- in Pisa: Miracle’s Piazza (Cathedral, Baptistery, Bell Tower and the Camposanto)
- in Florence: Duomo’s Piazza (Cathedral, Baptistery and Bell Tower) and Piazza della Signoria (Lanzi’s Loggia)
- in Siena: Campo’s Piazza (Palazzo Pubblico and Torre del Mangia) and Duomo’s Piazza ( Cathedral and Baptistery)
- in Rome: St. Peter’s Piazza, Navona’s Piazza and Spain’s Piazza
- in Naples: Via Duomo and Plebiscito’s Piazza (San Francesco di Paola’s Basilica and Palazzo Reale)
These are the ‘must’.
After that if you have a few time my suggestion is to walk around the streets of the town to discover the hidden corners of each place or to relax doing shopping or taking a drink in a Bar. Otherwise you can enjoy more ‘art’ and so:
- in Venice: Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari Church: Assumption of the Virgin (Tizian)
- in Milan: Convento Santa Maria delle Grazie: Last Supper (Leonardo da Vinci). Booking in advance is required http://www.cenacolovinciano.org/
- in Florence: Convento di San Marco (Beato Angelico) - Uffizi: Botticelli room. For booking make a phone call 0039055294883. They don’t need your credit card details.
- Siena: OPA Museum: Maestà (1311, Duccio di Buoninsegna) - Museo Civico: Maestà (1315, Simone Martini)
- Rome: San Luigi dei Francesi Church: Caravaggio - Villa Borghese: Bernini. Booking in advance is required http://www.ticketeria.it/
- Naples: San Domenico Maggiore Church: Cappella Sansevero
